The Academic Appeals Procedure provides information about the process to follow if a student wishes to appeal against a decision reached by the Assessment Board or Postgraduate Research Award Board.

Your guide to submitting an Academic Appeal and what you need to do before starting the process.

You can submit an Academic Appeal if you believe that a decision about your assessment outcome was affected by circumstances that you were unable to raise through the Exceptional Circumstances Procedure.

Is an Academic Appeal is right for you?

If you are unsure whether an academic appeal is the correct route for your situation, you may find it helpful to review the askUS academic appeals page or speak to your Student Progression Advisors (SPA) before submitting.

In addition to speaking to your Student Progression Advisors (SPA), you can also access askUS Support or the . To make enquiries regarding this procedure please email academicappeals@salford.ac.uk.

What you will need

To submit an academic appeal, you will need:

  • Your results letter (or PRAB email)
  • All evidence you wish to submit in support of your appeal

You should submit all relevant evidence at the point of application. Evidence cannot normally be added later, and the University is unable to request evidence on your behalf.

If you have not yet received your results letter, you will need to wait until it has been issued before you can submit an appeal. You may, however, begin gathering any relevant evidence in advance.

Your school office can advise on when results will be released. Results letters are sent to your University email address.

Postgraduate research students do not receive a results letter and should use the email notification from the Postgraduate Research Awards Board (PRAB) instead.

When to submit an appeal

The deadline to submit an academic appeal is 15 working days from the date on your results letter.

You will receive confirmation once your appeal has been received, along with information about the next steps.
