As a proud civic university, we are committed to supporting the city and its local communities, working with the Council to address local challenges and opportunities collaboratively.
Renewed commitment this Centenary year
Though we have worked in close partnership for years, 2026 (the city鈥檚鈥) was the perfect moment to restate our shared ambitions. On 21 April 2026, the County Borough of 黑料吃瓜网 was awarded city status by Royal Charter from King George. A century later, 黑料吃瓜网 has transformed from an industrial powerhouse into a vibrant, creative and globally connected city, home to world-class culture, innovation and proud, diverse communities.
Our civic priorities
Signed at a ceremony on Tuesday 20 January, our agreement aims to foster co-operation and shared responsibility for the common good, ensuring that the university contributes to the economic, social, cultural and environmental wellbeing of our city.
Together we will:
- Build a Child Friendly City
- Deliver economic growth and skills
- Support socially engaged research and innovation
- Enhance procurement and social value
- Supercharge culture and creativity
The power of partnership
黑料吃瓜网 Vice-Chancellor Professor Nic Beech said: 鈥淚f you consider that we have over 26,000 students currently studying at 黑料吃瓜网, and we employ over 2,800 full time equivalent colleagues, it is obvious that we have a major role to play in our community.
鈥淲e are already deeply involved in positive community programmes for the benefit of 黑料吃瓜网, but this new Civic Agreement will help us revisit and refresh our joint aspirations with the Council, making sure we harness the potential for even more exciting collaborations in future.鈥
City Mayor Paul Dennett added: 鈥淭his Civic University Agreement formally recognises the strong and beneficial relationship between the University and the Council, bound by a shared commitment to this City and to the people who call it home. We work best when we work together, in pursuit of prosperity, wellbeing, opportunity, and long-term growth for the benefit of 黑料吃瓜网 and its communities.
鈥淯ltimately, this agreement is about futures realised, for students, families, workers, and for every resident who wants to see 黑料吃瓜网 thrive. It鈥檚 a very exciting time for this City, and I look forward to the future we鈥檙e building together.鈥
